POSTION TITLE:  Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/Lab Technician

POSITION DESCRIPTION:            The City of Somerset operates a 4.4MGD federally permitted wastewater treatment plant that uses an on-site modern laboratory to perform process control and operational tests.  The employee is responsible for all aspects of laboratory and plant operation at the Pitman Creek Treatment Facility, performed in compliance with all state and federal regulations.  Employee will work in conjunction with other plant employees to perform daily routine sampling, testing and maintenance under direction of the Plant Supervisor/Head Operator.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES: 

• Operate a wastewater treatment facility requiring the use of mechanical tools, laboratory equipment, sampling and testing equipment, SCADA system and specialized machinery.
• Operate and regulate treatment plant machinery/equipment so that the effluent discharge meets permit standards established by State and Federal regulations.
• Take samples of influent, effluent, mixed liquor, RAS and WAS and perform laboratory analysis of samples in order to make plant operation adjustments to ensure efficient and complaint operation of plant.
• Take multiple daily D.O., pH, temperature, sludge judge and telemetry readings and record data on monthly operating report and laboratory bench sheets.
• Work both indoors and outdoors with occasional exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, precipitation, noise, machinery with moving parts, elevated platforms, heavy lifting, confined spaces, chemicals and stairs. Assist with general plant maintenance, groundskeeping and housekeeping as necessary.  Operate side by side utility vehicle, trucks, hand and power tools, drum dolly and pallet jack.
• Must be able to work every other weekend, rotating holidays and occasional overtime.
• Other responsibilities as directed by Plant Supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: 

• Current Kentucky Class I-IV Wastewater Treatment License
• High School diploma or GED
• Must possess valid driver’s license
• Must have strong math skills and a general knowledge of chemistry/laboratory and life sciences.
• Must be well organized and work with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Possess a strong work ethic and must be able to complete responsibilities with minimal oversight. Self-motivated.

SALARY:  Rate based upon education, experience, and certifications.
