Start Here: Do You Need the Class, the Exam, or Both?
Before registering for a KRWA Operator Certification School, please determine whether you are:

  • Seeking approval to take a certification exam
  • Registering for a three-day certification school
  • Attending the class for continuing education hours only

Operators who plan to take the certification exam must apply through the Kentucky Operator Certification Program first and receive approval before registering for KRWA’s certification school. The state requires applicants to submit the Registration Form for Exams and Training and the Education and Experience Documentation Form.

Step 1: Apply with the State First
If you are planning to take the certification exam, your first step is to apply through the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Operator Certification Program.

You will need to use the Kentucky EEC eForms system.

When you log in, select:

This is the form used for individuals requesting to take a drinking water or wastewater operator certification exam or attend a state training session.

You may also be required to complete the:

Education and Experience Documentation Form

This form documents your education and experience for drinking water or wastewater certification.

Step 2: Wait for Approval
Do not register for the exam unless you meet the education and experience requirements at the time your application is submitted. The state specifically notes that individuals should not apply to take an exam unless they meet the requirements when applying.

Once approved, you may register for the appropriate KRWA certification school and exam opportunity.

Step 3: Register for a KRWA Certification School
KRWA’s Operator Certification Schools are three-day review courses designed to help operators prepare for the certification exam.

These classes are open to:

  • Operators approved to take the certification exam
  • Operators seeking continuing education hours
  • Operators who want additional review before testing

KRWA certification schools are typically three days long and are followed by a test day administered by the Operator Certification Program.

Required Materials & Instructions

In some cases, participants may need to make their own accommodation arrangements.
