Elroy Larimore, age 91 of Horse Cave, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

Elroy Larimore spent 95% of his adult life catering to the needs of the public. Serving as Deputy Sheriff of Hart County (1958-1961) and General Manager of Green River Valley Water District (1962 – 1996). During his time as General Manager of the Green River Valley Water District, Elroy guided the water district toward becoming one of the largest and most efficiently operated rural systems in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He was deeply devoted to the common cause of providing and maintaining clean, SAFE drinking water to all rural citizens. Elroy was extremely active in numerous national, state, local and civic organizations.

As a result of his interest in the economic and rural development of our state and country, Elroy was a charter member of the Barren River Area Development District, serving as Chairman and numerous other offices through the years; he received the 2016 Tim Lee Carter Award for Distinguished Service; he received the National Association of Development Organization (NADO) Nick Salazar Leadership Award in 1991; an Incorporator of the Hart County Planning Commission; an original incorporator of the Kentucky Rural Water Association, where he guided the association during its infancy. He was instrumental in the great strides made through the National Rural Water Association by serving on the Board of Directors for twenty years and as its President (1988 – 1990) and Chaplin (1990 – 2003). Recognized as the NRWA Man of the Year in 1989; Hart County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1970 and 1989. Elroy is a member of Rotary International and very active in Gideon International.

Elroy was a bold follower of Jesus and a devoted and active member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church serving as Deacon Chairman, Royal Ambassador Leader, Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Brotherhood / Baptist Men's Leader. Elroy also served the Liberty Association as an Executive Board Member and Moderator.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, William C and Kizzie Pearl Nunn Larimore; five brothers, James C. Larimore, William C. Larimore, Elon Larimore, Leon Larimore and Carl Fancher; three sisters, Adell Biggs, Gladys England, and Lovie Whitlow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Doris Richardson Larimore; two children, Debra Riggs (Norman) and Gary Larimore (Rita); two grandsons, Trey Lyon (Bellamy) and Chris Riggs; two great grandchildren, Brenden and Asher Lyon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Pleasant Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Winn Funeral Home and from 8 AM until time of service at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church on Wednesday.
