Scope of Responsibilities: The Field Operator/Technician is responsible for the labor on the field crew. They are responsible for working in a safe manner, and working with The Heavy Equipment Operator to fix leaks and install new water services. This position is does take skill, however, this can be an entry level position where the right candidate can learn and grow to become more proficient in the water system. Field Operator/Technician’s will also have contact with the public and will need to remain professional with them. The individual is authorized to drive a district vehicle, and be responsible for the regular inspection and notifying the supervisor of any maintenance or repairs needed for this vehicle.

General Duties and Responsibilities: Duties consist of working with/around heavy equipment to locate and fix leaks and/or install water services. Work with manual, gas and battery-operated hand tools, find and fix water leaks, work on the equipment of the water system and understand and know the water system so as to be able to work in it effectively and safely. Coordinate leak repairs not only internally, but also with customers, coordinate with outside help as needed on jobs, and interact with customers as appropriate. Also, any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and / or the Superintendent.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: The Field Operator/Technician should demonstrate the ability to work with basic hand tools safely. Be able to work with a variety of people in a variety of environments. Be able to work as part of a crew, taking guidance as needed and showing initiative as needed. An understanding of basic, as well as water system plumbing is needed, as well as trouble shooting abilities. Requires extensive on-the-job training. Attend related schools training and seminars as determined by the Superintendent. Desirable Education/Qualification:

Desirable education and/or qualifications include; high school diploma/ GED. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL license is desirable. Be able to work as part of a crew, but independently as needed. Have the ability to obtain a Class 3 DW Distribution license. Must pass drug test and background check.

Physical Demand: Generally, this job requires manual labor, use required tools for the job, must be able to lift up to 100 lbs., 20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20, sit, kneel, stand multiple times in a day's time, work in any and all weather and job site conditions and a variety of terrains.

Work Environment: Mostly outdoor work, in whatever the weather environment is.
