Water Treatment Plant Operator (Springfield, KY)
Springfield Water & Sewer Commission is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator to work in the daily operation and maintenance of the Springfield WTP as well as the Lebanon Water Works WTP. Class IVA Surface Water Treatment certification is preferred.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the water treatment plants involving treatment of water in compliance with established procedures and standards and general, state and local laws and ordinances.
- Inspects and/or monitors pumps, charts, gauges, tanks and meters daily.
- Adds chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards; adjusts chemicals as necessary.
- Prepares and maintains accurate reports/records; performs lab testing; may assist personnel in collection of water samples; forwards water sample results and reports as required.
- Performs maintenance requirements on plant grounds and equipment; assists in maintaining preventive maintenance programs; makes minor repairs and/or adjustments to plant and equipment; discusses required maintenance outside the scope of staff expertise with the WTP Lead Operator or Manager.
- Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, chemicals, equipment and tools.
- Assists in maintaining clean and neat WTPs and grounds.
- Inspects raw water intake and reservoir; dispatches water distribution personnel when calls/complaints are received after normal business hours.
- Maintains open communication with WTP staff, distribution staff, Lead Operators, and WTP Manager; promotes teamwork.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Class IV source water treatment certification as required by the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet, preferred though not required.
Certification/Licensing Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain a Class I Water Plant Operator License issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky immediately upon completion of one Sacramento Drinking Water Course as well as six months of employment in the position; must be able to progressively obtain a Class II, III, and IV Water Plant Operator certification issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky immediately upon completion of two, three, and five Sacramento Drinking Water Courses as well as one year, one and a half years, and two and a half years of employment, respectively in the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license as a condition of continued employment.
Availability Requirement:
- Must be able to work irregular hours and assigned shift – including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work at both Springfield Water Treatment Plant and Lebanon Water Treatment Plant routinely.
