The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR  I - IV 
Utilities Department / Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Division 
Supervisor:     Chief Operator   
Supervises:    Higher Classes May Supervise WWTP Operators in Lower Classes 
Grade:     4, 6, 8, 9       Beginning Salary: $18.560-$26.390/ hour 
Class Characteristics:   Under general supervision, assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant. 
General Duties and Responsibilities:   Assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant and sludge disposal in compliance with established procedures, standards, and federal, state and local laws and ordinances.  Inspects and/or monitors pumps, charts, gauges, wells, tanks and meters daily.  Adds and adjusts chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards; collects and/or assists in the collection of samples.  Prepares and maintains accurate reports/records; forwards water samples and reports as required.  Under direction of Maintenance Technician, performs servicing requirements to plant and equipment including preventive maintenance.  Makes minor repairs and adjustments to plant and equipment and forwards requests for major repairs to supervisor.  Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, chemicals, equipment, and tools.  Assists in maintaining clean and neat plant and grounds.  Participates in continuing education program to obtain and maintain licenses.  Filter building operations. Performs other related duties as assigned. 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
Training and Experience:  Graduation from high school/equivalent and moderate experience. 
Certification/Licensing Requirements:   Must be able to maintain a Class I WWTP Operator License, or possess and maintain a Class II, III, or IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators License.  All classes MUST possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license as a condition of continued employment in the class.  
Availability Requirement:  Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at any time.
