Field Operations Equipment Operator (Paris, KY)
Reports to: Field Operations Crew Leader / Foreman / Superintendent
Department: 02.310 – Field Operations
Core Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00am-4:00pm
FLSA: Non-exempt
Grade: O4
Supervisory: No direct reports, but as the equipment operator on scene is expected to remain alert and provide direction to staff that will insure safe operations on job site.
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, serves to maintain lines of the water and wastewater system; and does related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: This position requires basic knowledge or the ability to learn water distribution and waste water collections systems. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used to maintain the lines throughout the city. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used and preventative maintenance practices. Ability to understand and to follow instructions. All other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED)
- Valid Kentucky driver's license.
- Knowledge and experience with operating medium equipment; backhoe, skid steer, mini excavator.
Special Knowledge. Skills and Abilities: The familiarity with or ability to learn principles and practices applied in the operation and maintenance of water systems. Ability to inspect utility lines and to detect flaws and defects. Ability to quantify amounts registered on meters and charts accurately and maintain records of operations. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to operate equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; perform repetitive movements of hands or wrist. Ability to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time.
Physical criteria include:
The ability to lift 25/50/75 pounds regularly
The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
The ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions
