The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of  EQUIPMENT OPERATOR iI/III  

Utilities Department

Water/Sewer Division - Wastewater Collection (WWC)

Supervisor:     WWC Field Supervisor/WWC Crew Leader

Supervises:     EOIII May Supervise WWC Operators in Absence of Crew Leader

Grade:              106, 108 (starting at $14.634/ hour, $17.466/ hour)

Class Characteristics:   Under general supervision, operates light to medium vehicles and equipment, EOIII operates all heavy equipment, involved in maintenance and installation of wastewater lines, lift stations, and related facilities; performs related work as required. 

General Duties and Responsibilities:  Operates light to medium vehicles and equipment, EOIII operates all heavy equipment (backhoe, trencher, trucks), necessary to construct and/or maintain wastewater lines, lift stations, and related facilities.  Assists in the installation of sewer taps and correcting problems in sewer lines.  Performs preventive maintenance duties on equipment and vehicles; cleans vehicles and equipment after use.  Detects malfunctions in equipment and makes minor repairs or recommendations for major repairs.  Responsible for the proper operation of equipment and the following of traffic safety regulations.  Performs WWC Operator duties when not operating vehicles and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience:  Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by three (3) years (EOII), five (5) years for EOIII, of construction work experience, including the operation and maintenance of construction equipment and vehicles. Attendance at vocational school in related field desired, but not required for EOIII.

Certification/Licensing Requirements:   Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) as a condition of continued employment in this class.    

Availability:   Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at all hours.
