Best Tasting Water in Kentucky Found in Lewisport for a Record Seventh Time!

News,

Judges at Kentucky Rural Water Association’s Annual Conference and Exhibition held August 23-25, at the Galt House Hotel & Suites in Louisville, Kentucky, have once again found the state's best tasting water in Hancock County! On August 24, 2021, Lewisport Municipal Water Works was named the winner of a statewide competition to identify the tastiest water in Kentucky for 2021. A panel of four judges from various sectors of the water and wastewater industry that included Daniel Brown, United Systems & Software; Emily Miesner, Layne – A Granite Company; Sandra Dunahoo, Nesbitt Engineering, Inc.; and Chip Wilkins, Lawton Insurance, selected Lewisport’s water as the best in the state. This makes a record total of seven times that Lewisport has won bragging rights in this popular contest! Lewisport, located on the banks of the Ohio River, provides ground water to 1,150 homes, businesses and industry. Sixteen water districts, water associations, and municipal utilities from around Kentucky submitted samples of their water, straight from the tap for this competition.

Nearly 700 representatives of Kentucky’s public drinking water and wastewater utilities gathered for the 42nd Annual Conference and Exhibition to hear informative presentations by industry experts on “Developing New Normals in an Ever-changing Environment.”  Attendees also enjoyed networking with their peers, and touring Kentucky’s largest exhibition of products and services available to public utilities.

Brent Wigginton, Lewisport City Administrator, was excited to hear the announcement of the winner. “We are so proud that we were able to win the Best Tasting Water Contest for the seventh year overall.  We have a very dedicated team working for the City of Lewisport and they take their careers very seriously and strive to provide the best service possible to our customers. Again, we are very pleased and humbled to be awarded this honor once again.” While the water from Lewisport Municipal Water Works was selected as the most appealing, second place was awarded to Paintsville City Utilities, with third place going to Williamsburg Municipal Utilities.

Because of the quality of the drinking water from Lewisport Municipal Water Works, Kentucky has a great chance of winning the national Best Tasting Water Contest in Washington, D.C., during the 2022 Rural Water Rally, an annual legislative event for the state affiliates of the National Rural Water Association. The competition is part of the Quality on Tap! campaign -- emphasizing the high quality, great value and exceptional taste of America’s public drinking water.
