Reports To: Supervisor/Manager – Assigned Work Area
Provides labor support to the following work areas: Distribution Operations and Logistics, Metering Services, Grounds Maintenance, Water Quality and Production. Work performed may include meter reading, meter exchanging, and assisting in meter shop; turning service on/off; construction, maintenance and/or new installation, crew work; fire-hydrant maintenance; first run response; water sampling and basin cleaning; material handling; facility and grounds keeping; and any other duty as assigned or required.
Essential Job Functions:
Essential job functions include the ability to learn and operate:
Hand tools and power tools such as drills, jack hammers, saws, shovels, etc.;
Heavy equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, excavators;
Hand held devices, underground utility locators;
Lawn equipment and tools;
Plant equipment such as pumps, valves, chemical handling equipment;
Basic knowledge of computers and ability to learn and operate Louisville Water Company software systems;
Effectively follow both written and verbal instructions/directions;
Understand and follow OSHA regulations (e.g., confined space, P.P.E., excavations, etc.);
Must be willing to qualify for classified/skilled union positions;
Acquire and maintain a Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A (CDL) within four (4) months from date of hire.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Generally works 40 hours/week. Works outside in a variety of weather conditions with constant exposure to outdoor elements;
Continuous walking over all terrains (e.g. Meter Readers walk a minimum of 8 hours/day);
Louisville Water employees are essential to providing safe drinking water to the community. Employees are required to work all shifts, including nights/weekends/holidays and overtime as required;
Able to frequently work offsite in remote locations with limited supervision; may be required to work alone or in team settings;
Will be required to drive frequently to various locations throughout Metro Louisville and surrounding counties.
High School Diploma or equivalent;
Valid Driver’s License, with good driving history;
Two years of work experience preferably in any of these industries – utilities, chemical, manufacturing, construction, transportation, warehousing, landscaping; or Trade/Vocational school graduate (post high school) in a related field (e.g., heavy equipment, carpentry, HVAC, mechanical, etc.).
Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A (CDL) or Permit;
Work experience in the following areas:
Operations of water/wastewater treatment plants
