CLASS TITLE:  WATER PLANT OPERATOR

DEFINITION OF CLASS:

A skilled position; directly responsible to the Senior Water Plant Operator, in the operation and maintenance of the Sturgis Water and equipment on an assigned shift.  Employees in this class normally work independently with their work reviewed by the supervisor who checks records and charts and makes inspections throughout the plant, intake, and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of the principles and practices applied to the operation and maintenance of pumps and similar machinery.  Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.  Knowledge of the proper methods of lubricating equipment.  Ability to inspect water machinery, and mechanical equipment in operation and to detect flaws and defects in operations.  Ability to operate and maintain mowing and similar equipment.  Ability to operate efficiently and safely all equipment and machinery used in water operations.  Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, Department Heads, elected officials and the public; good physical and mental condition.  Ability to acquire Kentucky Water Treatment Plant Class III A Certification and Class II D Distribution.

*Possess a valid Kentucky driver’s license; standard high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. Ability to read and write the English language Experience in the use of hand and power tools and heavy equipment.  Knowledge of chemistry and mathematics.

The City of Henderson is accepting resumes and applications for the position of HWU Director of Engineering.  This position will plan, design, and administer the engineering aspects of Utility projects and provide leadership, direction, and support to the engineering staff.  Minimum requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering supplemented by a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in design, technical review, and project management of water, wastewater, and stormwater projects; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the same requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Previous experience supervising and directing work of engineering staff.  Preferably Licensure as a Professional Engineer by the State of Kentucky or able to obtain within 6 months of employment.  Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.  This position requires the ability to pass a pre-employment physical as well as drug and alcohol screens as requested.
